I am an SSC Momma and I love the convenience and support Soft Structured Carriers bring to moms like me who are always on the go and babywear for lengths of time. My babies literally grew in the carrier as babywearing is ingrained deeply in our daily lives. My children have been babyworn from birth and napping and being babyworn 8-10hours every day is not new to them. If I am not the one babywearing, it is my baby’s yaya babywearing her/them while also doing house chores.

My first impression was optimistic. The colors of Kulibangbang were a delight and pleasing to the eye and I love how traditional and native the design is. The parallel design on the panel actually makes the wearer look tall and slim. What made me proud though was that this is a local, Philippine made carrier. It made me excited to have a go with it.

The first person to try this on was Ate Hannie, Azuri’s caregiver. She has been babywearing Azuri since she was 3wks old and has had a go on our SSC’s and her comment was that the other SSC’s are more breathable and that the buckles were “difficult” to adjust which made me curious since upon inspection during its arrival, the buckles looked pretty much like the SSC’s we were used to and this was a Half Conversion.

Upon trying it on myself, I found there to be some crunch on it and it still needs a lot of breaking in even though I am on the last ones listed on the testing roster for this carrier. So we had a go on it, walking in the morning for Azuri’s morning sun and throughout the morning while doing some chores at home. I wore her on my front and then on my back. I find the straps and the waist belt to be a bit stiff which poked a bit on my ribs as I like to wear my baby high. There was also a bit of discomfort when I had to bend and sit down on a low chair. Upon adjusting straps, I realized that the reason why it was quite challenging to adjust was because I am used to my other SSC’s wherein to relax the shoulder straps, you pull up from under with forefinger while with QB I had to use my thumb and pull it up from above. It wasn’t difficult, really. It was just different like right hand driving. I also noticed that with my other SSC’s, the waist buckle is either partial to the right or at the center of my back while with QB, it was on the left which made me think that this could be a left handed person’s carrier. While wearing my baby in front, I noticed that the chest belt was quite high towards my nape and I could not adjust it further towards the center of my shoulder blades. This carrier is also quite narrow so my husband who is 6ft and has a wide torso and broad shoulders could not wear this comfortably.

Further, during prolonged babywearing, I felt some soreness on my shoulders, waist and hips; perhaps I still need to find my sweet spot with QB but also maybe because this carrier has not been broken in quite yet. As for breathability, as this is a half conversion, we also found babywearing in it quite hot towards late morning to noon time; maybe it would be different if this were a full wrap conversion or perhaps if QB could consider reinforcing the the panel with a more breathable fabric backing.

Things to love though about this SSC:

  • Design
  • If you are looking to babywear on a budget
  • The loops on the shoulder straps where you can snap on a toy and not have worry about it getting lost
  • Generous pocket in front where you can put small stuff – keys, hood, burp cloth, etc.
  • Detachable hood with reach straps
  • PFA

Overall, I think this is a decent carrier if you are looking for an affordable SSC. Its webbings and buckles are reinforced and safety tested and it promotes the proper position for baby. This is good for short wearing as well as for more petite, small structured babywearers. It is also available locally and is in stock. I guess it has a lot of room for improvement and I commend QB Collection for being open to suggestions on developing this product.

First Impression

From the point of view of an avid baby wearer whose wrap experience is quite limited to local handwoven wraps; my curiosity for this one is over the moon. Really… hearts? I was so excited to hold this wrap; this wrap officially changed my impression that heaver gsm equals thick, hot, not suited for Philippine weather – all these got thrown out the window and I was so convicted and was so wrong that I just loved it even more.

This wrap has all the qualities of a carrier that “grows” with you. Its size is versatile and allows the wearer to do lots of carrying styles and finishes and it can also be shared by family members; its wrapping qualities are superb: it’s soft and moldable, it’s supportive and cushy, it’s breathable, it glides well during passes and is easy to maneuver even for newbies and most importantly it is forgiving. This is just one of those wraps that will not give you shoulder and body pain during prolonged babywearing even with a sloppy wrap job.

During one of those nights that my teething baby is cranky, I wrap her up with my best efforts. The seat popper and leaner that she is, she will try to fight her sleepiness. Once she is in, she submits to slumber. I love how she feels so secure and close to me and even though I know I hurriedly wrapped her, she felt snug and safe and slept like a baby.

The best part is it is easy to maintain fit for daily use and it is beautiful and elegant for special occasions. I used this during my Grandma’s 82nd birthday and got compliments. While wearing my baby throughout the evening, she was quiet, content and dozed off as it got late while I was hands-free, comfortable and wore my baby on my shoulders near my chest with pride. Its colors are vibrant without being loud and its weave allowed it to be breathable. Fiolia definitely has found the perfect balance with the science and art of creating a supportive, fairly low maintenance, beautiful wrap. Garden of Eden is definitely a masterpiece.

I wish I could keep this. Own one of these. I guess I just have to thank my lucky stars I was able to experience it. Fiolia is Love.

First Impression:

I got in the list of not one but 2 Soul Slings ring sling testers – hurray! I most definitely looked forward to this since my baby wearing first love is with the ring sling and I love how simple and basic the concept of it is. See, wearing a baby on a ring sling looks easy; like that is where a baby definitely should be. Snug, close and high on momma’s chest, near her heart. But wait, there’s more! I cannot hide my excitement because this one is a double layer ring sling. I was curious as my toddler is just getting so big so fast and she really still loves being carried so I found myself preferring ssc’s and missing my ring slings.

I just love how simple and well thought this ring sling is. Like the maker put herself in the shoes of every ring slingin’ baby wearer and conceptualized it to fit every age and every stage and every season. The big rings make threading the sling easy, the colors are neutral and reversible and easy to pair with clothing and definitely daddy approved.

Baby wearing two children in this carrier is pure bliss. I like the convenience a ring sling brings. It is light weight, compact, can double as a scarf, blanket or mat and I can nurse discretely and overall look pretty. The ring sling to me is my preferred carrier whenever I like to look dainty and all out feminine. My babies liked being in this carrier; it is airy, comfy, wide enough to make a deep seat and hug my toddler up to her nape. For the most part, my experience with the Coal Chambray Double Layer RS was pleasant. However, during prolonged baby wearing my older daughter, I experienced discomfort which I think is because of my picky shoulder even though the fabric was spread widely on my back and capped well on my shoulder.

Definitely well recommended for those looking for a sling to share and a carrier that grows with baby!

First Impression:

This is the 2nd of two Soul Slings RS that I got to test – 2 slings, different blends, different types, both Soul and I just can’t help but share my excitement about our ring slingin’ experience with them. Here goes:

The design looks appealing in a casual and laid back kind of way with its refreshing green color. It’s the kind I’d wear going to the park, mall, grocery, playdates. It’s relaxing and simple and exudes the aura or peace and playfulness.

Upon threading it, I noticed that although I am not one of the first few testers to try this, this sling needed more breaking in. There was still some crunch and stiffness which was alright. It just needs more love and more uppies. Just like its Soul Slings sister, Coal Chambray, I personally love the convenience a ring sling brings. Compact, lightweight, versatile—Ring sling, being my baby wearing first love and you never forget your first love. I have not been excited for quite a while about ring slinging since my oldest is quite heavy already and my locally sourced ring slings are not handwoven from which I got some shoulder discomfort from prolonged wear.

Surprisingly, but as expected baby wearing in Celadon RS was a nice, refreshing experience for me. I am so happy that my ring slingin’ days are not over because of my picky shoulder. Although needing more breaking in, Celadon is grippy and has great support even for my toddler. My little one loved being in whether in front or on my back. I love how the gathered shoulder looks when worn. Its design and color are simple yet classy, lively and fresh.

This is well recommended for families who like to share carriers, for quick uppies, for small babies and even toddlers. Basically, this carrier is one that grows with you throughout your baby wearing days.

First Impression:

Its wide shoulders – Yesss! I was rejoicing. In my mind, finally; another good make of a Mei Tai.

The straps are quite wide and thinner than the panel and the waist belt was floppy. The design is simple yet this carrier is well constructed. It is reversible and the colors are gender neutral, casual and playful. This is definitely a lightweight, breezy, organic carrier made of 100% cotton and veggie dyes. I was excited.

First my little had a turn. We had a nice time. She loves being worn and we were outdoors. The sun was shining but the breeze was nice so I knew it was an instant hit because she napped very peacefully. I like how we can make use of the straps to spread on the bum and reinforce passes for extra support.

When I was new at baby wearing, the Mei Tai fascinated and so I tried a few local brands and was not fully satisfied so I did not come to love it. Being given this opportunity to test this one opened my heart once more to the Mei Tai. I love that this is made to be Traditional and is not buckled. It also allows one to be creative with finishes with its generous length of the strap and at the same time, not overwhelmingly so that one would be intimidated of what do with the excessive length of the straps.

We did front and back carries and being lightweight did not hinder this carrier to have commendable support.

I took this out on a stroll at the City Market with my toddler on my back. It was a good one hour and I did feel some pressure on my lower back and legs after sometime but my daughter is quite heavy already and in all fairness, the passes to reinforce the panel did a lot for support which is brilliant construction with careful consideration that each part has a purpose and is maximized.

I love this carrier. It is lightweight, compact, has two shoulder support, can be shared by family, can do fancy finishes and it’s simple to use. This definitely changed my Mei Tai impression. First impressions do last. We will certainly miss this carrier. We recommended for smaller babies.

A Review on Almitra Tattva Nilopala Woven Wrap s6

Baby: 7mos, 7kgs
Wearer: Height – 5’6.5”/ Weight 55kgs / Medium Body build

Type of Carrier: Nilopala Woven Wrap

Type of carries done: FWCC, FCC, Reinforced Kangaroo, FRTR

The moment I opened the package, two pouches were in it and one of them was a blue and black pouch which matched its wrap. It made my heart skip a beat because my daughter’s name is Azuri, which means blue, which is also my favorite color. I could imagine in my mind the outfits to match this wrap with.

This is a classic. The vines and the shade of blue are appealing in a simple, understated kind way. Indeed, less is more.

Nilopala by Almitra Tattva upclose

This wrap is soft out of the pouch. The weave is loose and the wrap is perfect for the Philippine weather where it is almost always hot and humid. I could wrap my little girl with this even with multiple passes. This wrap, however, like the previous Almitra Tattva wrap is delicate and prone to pulls and snags which is why we had to be extra careful with her.

Taal lake at the backgroup with babywearing mommy friends

This is a lightweight wrap and as expected, it is not as supportive or as forgiving. A bad wrap job will result to achy shoulders or a popped seat. I find that I have to make sure I tighten strand by strand by stand and make sure my baby is snug as a bug otherwise she likes to lean or straighten her legs. This beauty is soft and smooth and even silky. It literally glides when I make passes but it has zero grip thus is definitely not for beginners. My mom, who has no prior experience to wrapping was in town while this tester wrap was with me and she was inlove with its design and insisted to try wearing my little girl in her. It sure looked really beautiful in photos as expected but her wrap job wasn’t too good that it wasn’t very comfortable for both wearer and baby.

In my personal opinion, this is best for small babies and definitely for very special occasions. Overall, I had a wonderful experience with Nilopala but I would not recommend it for daily use nor for prolonged wearing with toddlers.

A Review on Nona Wrap Imagine Blue Ice Size5

A Review on Nona Wrap Imagine Blue Ice Size5

By Mommy Kat, Liane Girl 32mos & Zurzuri 6mos

One advocacy close to my heart is Babywearing. Babywearing and Breastfeeding come hand in hand for us especially as a busy mompreneur, this helps me to be productive while having my children close.

This review is from the perspective of a Beginner Wrap Enthusiast. Although I have been babywearing since my oldest daughter, 32mos was newborn and have experienced different carrier types and slings, it was babywearing in a wrap that I found quite challenging and felt that it would not be my thing as I am always on the go. We did have a few local wraps but I only practiced and carried my little girl in them at home up until when my youngest was born. When she was born, I then explored wrapping a little bit more. I nursed her in a wrap and brought her everywhere in one. My littlest is now 6mos old and we now enjoy wrapping so much and so does her older sister which is why it is my honor to be part of this tester group.

This wrap was quite rough and raw when I first held it. Like a cardboard in my opinion. When the first tester sent it to me though a week later, it was mildly broken in. Still kind of stiff but was already quite floppy.

DESIGN – Imagine Blue Ice is a beautiful wrap. Its color and concept is cool to the eye. It is classy and very easy to pair with clothing, as I am that kind of a person; I like to look coordinated. I also really like how versatile its design is and that it even looks appropriate in formal events and would not look out of place at a park or a dinner get together.

WEAVE – I am from the cooler part of the Philippines, Tagaytay. Generally our weather is humid and sunny but during late afternoon, I find the thickness of this wrap to be good enough that my child doesn’t mind being in it during prolonged babywearing. I have carried my youngest in it for 4 hours straight and she nursed, slept, observed around and napped again and was not fussy in it. My oldest also liked sleeping with Imagine Blue Ice. She loved making a blanket out of it.

day2 day1-2

SUPPORT- I like that it is midweight and still very supportive. I have babyworn my children in different wrap carrying positions—front, back and hip carries in it and observed that the support is superb. My 14kg girl was easy on my back and shoulders. I love the cushiness especially when it was further broken in.

day4-5 day4-4 day4-3 day4-2 day4-1

LENGTH/WIDTH – This quite shrunk a bit as expected during its first wash and was a size5. I love how versatile this size allowed us to babywear in different carrying styles and positions while having enough length for various finishes. The generous width also easily allowed me to create a deep seat especially for my toddler while allowing a high panel on her back which I personally prefer. I would also like to point out my joy with the tapered tails. They have not only made tying easier, they also made my wrapping look snappy and polished.

day3-3 day3-2 day3 day4-3

GRIP – I love how Imagine Blue Ice glides when I make my passes. It is forgiving to newbie enthusiasts like me because while it does glide, it is also grippy enough and is easy to tighten. It makes mediocre wrapping look good and feel good. I have not had body pain wearing Nona. Definitely is beginner worthy.

Overall, we loved our experience. We have further broken it in and I am sure that the next tester in line will gush about how yummy this wrap is. Thank you for the opportunity once again and hopefully, we would be given the privilege to test other Nona Wrap blends in the future.
